South Trail Fire & Rescue District
  • The South Trail Fire Protection and Rescue Service District is an independent taxing district established by the state legislature to provide fire protection and rescue services to approximately 62,000 residents of a 39-square mile area in south Fort Myers, Lee County, Florida.

    The District operates four fire stations, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.  The District never closes and is always operationally ready to respond. Three shifts of 25 firefighters staff four fire engines, a 100 ft. Aerial Platform, one first out utility response pumper, two Advanced Life Support/Non-Transport quick response units, a small rescue boat, a 12-foot Zodiac Emergency Response Boat, and two brush trucks. All of our firefighters are Emergency Medical Technicians; 47 are practicing Paramedics. ALL district fire engines/trucks/pumpers/rescues provide Advanced Life Support level of care for medical emergencies. 

    In 2025, our crews responded to 11,789 incidents - including fires, rescues, medical emergencies, hazardous material events, and vehicle crashes.

    Congratulations to Firefighter Bryce Dearstyne on being named South Trail Fire & Rescue's 2026 Firefighter of the Year. Nominated by his officers and selected by all three Battalion Chiefs, Bryce was recognized for his outstanding dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence both on and off the emergency scene. His professionalism and service embody the highest standards of South Trail Fire & Rescue. Bryce received this honor during our 2026 Awards Ceremony, surrounded by fellow firefighters, friends, and family—including his wife, Tara, and their twin babies, who were there to celebrate this special achievement. Congratulations, Bryce, on this well-deserved recognition and outstanding accomplishment!


    Please join us in congratulating Mack McMullen on his promotion to Battalion Chief at South Trail Fire & Rescue! Chief McMullen brings more than two decades of fire service experience to this role, including over ten years as a company officer and service as an Acting Battalion Chief.


    South Trail Fire & Rescue is proud to announce the promotion of Engineer Dusty Turner to the rank of Captain. Captain Turner earned this promotion through a comprehensive assessment process that evaluated leadership, operational knowledge, conflict resolution, instructional abilities, and knowledge of the district and community we serve. Throughout his career, Dusty has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service, professional excellence, and the safety of our residents.
