The audible lightning alarms are designed to increase awareness during dangerous weather conditions and support quick, informed decision-making. Alerts are based on lightning strokes, meaning an alarm may sound even if lightning is not visibly seen, as lightning can occur between clouds and still pose a safety risk. Our audible lightning alerts are programmed to operate daily from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with extended hours at Station 62 to support Thursday evening cadet training. Alert times may be adjusted as weather conditions warrant. Residents can access live weather data from each station 24/7 through links available on the South Trail Fire & Rescue website, providing another tool to stay informed during changing weather conditions. These weather stations complement existing lightning alert systems already in place at local schools and parks and do not replace them. South Trail Fire & Rescue remains committed to using advanced technology to protect lives, property, and our firefighters.
